Review: Visbiome

I have been given this product as part of a product review through the Chronic Illness Bloggers network. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company. “

I wanted to try this product because after having my gallbladder removed, my bowels seem to be out of whack! I didn’t want to take anything chemically derived and I keep hearing that probiotics are supposed to be good for you. So, I figure I could try this for 30 days.

Visbiome is recommended for people that deal with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis (UC), pouchitis, and hepatic encephalopathy (HE). I tried this product more for IBS than anything. My IBS symptoms included diarrhea. Some of the symptoms are:

  • Excess gas
  • Sudden urges to go to the bathroom, especially after eating
  • A need to go to the bathroom often
  • Nausea
  • A feeling of not being able to empty your bowels

About the only symptom I did not have was nausea. But the others were quite regular.

According to Visbiome’s website the daily dose was 2-4 capsules per day for IBS. I only took 2 a day. It took about a week for the symptoms of bloating to go away. By reducing to one capsule once a day for the first week and then moving up to 2 capsules daily for the remaining trial, the side effects were noticeably reduced.

This high potency probiotic medical food contain live microorganisms that, when taken in adequate amounts, provide health benefits. Probiotics are intended to modulate and augment the microbiome for beneficial or therapeutic effects. For this reason it is important to keep Visbiome refrigerated.irritable bowel syndrome

Once I got passed the initial side effect of bloating by reducing my intake per day, the excessive gas and the sudden urges and frequency were nicely reduced by the end of my 30 day trial. Will I continue on this? The smart side of my brain says “of course!” However, the other side says, I am feeling much better, so why should I have to take ANOTHER pill? Would I recommend this to others? Yes, Why, because within 30 days you can find out if your symptoms are improved. If they are not, then quit taking it. It won’t hurt to try it. Please make sure though that you are consulting your doctor before you start. He can provide help should you have any side effects.
