Muscle Spasms, Lemon Essential Oil and its Benefits

Lemon oil was used by ancient Egyptians centuries ago to detoxify the body.  Lemon oil also helps support the immune system.  It has a clean, fragrant scent that makes it perfect for diffusing. This oil is crisp and refreshing, with an array of everyday uses and health benefits.  It has become a go-to oil for newcomers and veteran users alike, employed extensively in cooking, cleaning, topical application, aromatherapy, ingestion and much more.  Lemon oil is also rich in antioxidants, which protect cells from damaging free radicals. According to Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College assistant professor Dr. J.V. Hebbar, the benefits of lemon include:

For me, Lemon essential oil has made such a huge impact on my life.  One of the symptoms of MS that I deal with are spasms.  Several areas of my body have spasms.  I get them in my hands and my lower back, but the ones that are the most frequent and the most painful are in my calves and feet.  These one I can set off by simply stretching.  I have been ripped out of sleep, jumping up, trying to make the leg spasms go away.  

After seeing a nutritionist, I started drinking water.  I started adding lemon oil to my water when I read something about it helping the immune system.  I found a brand that I love and started adding every time I filled up my water bottle.  I wasn’t sure what if anything was going to happen. I figured it would take a couple weeks.  

After about a month of adding Lemon Essential Oil to my water, I was noticing that my spasms were extremely decreased.  One of the tests for me was stretching, since it was easy to set off a spasm.  Well, after a month of using Lemon Essential Oil, I wasn’t able to reproduce a spasm by stretching.  I was thrilled, but still wasn’t 100% convinced.

I continued to add Lemon Essential Oil to my water bottle until I finally ran out.  Because of the major family drama that has been going on, it took me about a month before I had a chance to re-order my fav.  While without my Lemon Essential Oil, my spasms came back in full force within about 2 weeks.  Just stretching, I was able to cause a spasm.  My leg spasms were back in full force.  I had to take the time to re-order, I did.  About a week later, I was back to adding Lemon Essential Oil to my water.

This time, my spasms didn’t take quite as long to go away, this time I started noticing them reducing frequency and intensity within a week and a half.  This was that final thing to convince me that by adding Lemon Essential Oil every time I filled up my water bottle, my spasms would be almost completely eliminated.

Although Lemon Essential Oil has made a huge impact on my life and on my spasms, they still like to sneak in every once in a while.  But since I have been using Lemon Essential Oil, my spasms are so infrequent, I barely even notice that I am having one.

I won’t promise you will have the same results, but because of the many other benefits and uses of Lemon Essential Oil, it wouldn’t hurt to try it.
